The 100’s Marie Avgeropoulos talks Linctavia struggle

Marie Avgeropoulos, who stars as the feisty Octavia Blake on The 100, shares a gripping struggle between her character and her character’s love interest, Lincoln Kom Trikru, portrayed by Ricky Whittle. The iconic ship, known as Linctavia to fans, has been a strong presence in the series. Even though Whittle departed the drama during the second half of season 3 due to creative differences on set, his character, Lincoln, played a prominent role (in relationship terms) for the rest of The 100‘s run.

Naturally, if you haven’t caught up until that point yet (Octavia goes really, really dark), then I’m not going to indulge you with spoilers. But what I am going to do is have Marie discuss the challenges Octavia and Lincoln will face in The 100‘s season 3 opener. The episode is titled “Wanheda Part One.” Like all couples, Linctavia will face a hurdle. It is one that touches them personally. Yet, the confrontation offers key emotional insight between the characters and a hopeful turning point. After all, hope is one of The 100‘s central themes. It wove through many of the series’ narratives.

I’ve always enjoyed the dynamics between Octavia and Lincoln, despite their unusual start in season 1. They were star-crossed lovers and, in a way, Octavia used the relationship to ‘break away’ from her brother, Bellamy (Bob Morley), who reigned in her protection. There comes a time in life when a teenager believes that they know what’s best for them. In this case, encountering Lincoln was Octavia’s time.

Marie Avgeropoulos reveals that ‘Octavia tries to bridge the gap’ in The 100 season 3

In an interview from the 2016 Winter TCA Tour, Marie insighted on what Octavia and Lincoln will endure. The situation will be intense between the couple, especially when it comes to ‘bowing down’ to the Arkers, in the form of fashion. Now, don’t get me wrong, for I love the wardrobe on The 100. However, when a certain item comes up for questioning, then you know it’s going to stir up some drama.

“That [ARK jacket] really frustrates Octavia because she worked so hard to be a Grounder and sort of separate herself from the Arkers. Byt then, wait a minute. [Lincoln] walks out with the Arker jacket on. Which just represents that ultimately [everything] that has tortured her entire life,” Marie says in the above video. “Octavia just tries to bridge the gap on how this is gonna work with the enemy, which is Lincoln essentially living in [Arkadia]. Octavia doesn’t trust that his life will be saved.”

The 100 can be streamed on Apple TV and Prime for viewing pleasure. It can also be purchased on Blu-Ray and DVD.
