See Bob Morley as Lucas in ABC’s The Family Next Door

Bob Morley has been snagging lots of work this year, and we absolutely love that for him. He’ll be starring in not one, but two horror movies. The first one is an intense sci-fi with Another, and a post-apocalyptic zombie thriller, Crossed. Of course, we’d like to see Bobby not die or suffer for once (in media), but given our history, that might only be a dream.

The great news is that in The Family Next Door, a drama released in August 2025 by the ABC (Australia), based on the NYT best-selling book of the same name and directed by Emma Freeman, mysteries lie deep within the neighborhood, Bobby doesn’t die. However, he does portray Lucas, a handsome photographer and surfer who’s a checkered family man with a secret of his own.

Those secrets will lead to some unfortunate, but understandable circumstances. We all have secrets, but most of the time, they bubble to the surface. Then, you have a shitload (pardon my French) of a mess to sort through. And when we get it done, nothing is the same again.

When it comes to living in a tight-knit community, there’s bound to be drama, secrets, and truth reveals! Every neighborhood has them, and yet, no one can escape them. In Lucas’ case, he’s a free-loving guy with a photographic talent, but don’t let these qualities fool you, as he, too, is laced with subtle demons. Yet, his wife, Ange (Bella Heathcote), who’s the primary breadwinner of the family, notices that something’s amiss with her husband. However, she stays with him for the sake of their two young children.

His unfaithfulness (where did I see that before?) was unveiled by a visitor, causing a domino effect. I’m not telling you what happens, as that would be spoiling it. Instead, and even better yet, you can watch Bobby as Lucas in the trailer above!

How to watch The Family Next Door

Australians have the sheer luck of watching or streaming The Family Next Door on ABC 7 Australia (no affiliation with Disney’s division) on its website or mobile app. While I did have the privilege of getting screeners and the episodes, as many entertainment journalists do, American seekers will have to be patient for the six-episode drama to come to the States. As Bobby’s other two Aussie shows, Love Me and In Limbo, have found a second home on Hulu, there’s a good chance that The Family Next Door will drop there as well.
